The Respire Haiti Futbol Club (RHFC) was started in 2012 with a few used balls and a young man was willing to volunteer as a coach. Kids from the community came barefoot and in jeans, but they were excited to play.
Since then, RHFC has grown to one of the most recognized and prominent soccer clubs not only in our area, but in all of Haiti. We now have nearly 400 kids from 5-18 years old with 5 boys teams (separate age categories) and 2 girls teams. Our hope is to eventually be able to establish an avenue for some of these players to be able to use soccer as a means to get an education through scholarships in the States.
We have had 7 players attend the National training center and currently have 5 girls playing for the Haitian National team that train and go to school full time at the Haitian Federation of Football Academy in Croix de Bouquets, Haiti. One of these girls, NiNi, has excelled to the point of receiving the honor and opportunity to represent Haiti in many stages including the U20 Women’s World Cup in France in 2018, as well as many international tournaments such as the 2020 Olympic and World Cup qualifiers held in Houston, TX and Dominican Republic respectively. NiNi was the youngest starter for the team at the age of 17. NiNi is 19 now and has opportunities to potentially play D1 soccer at a university here in the US.
Our U18 boys team has also traveled internationally to compete in tournaments with many having the opportunity to play in the international professional circuit as a result.
Our program continues to give children a platform to develop their soccer skills, as well as grow in their faith spiritually and as a leader. Each week practice begins with a devotion and character development. We are excited to see where God has brought this program, and even more excited to see how He will continue to bless it.
